Josefina Vilela

My name is Josefina. I’m 22 years old and I’m currently studying Criminology at University. I am a triple amputee due to a house fire in 2011 when I was 14 years old. I spent nearly 2 years at Birmingham Children’s Hospital burns unit and continued my care at the QE. I have been involved with the burns research team for 6 years now and enjoy working with all the different people, including those who have gone through a similar situation to me. I really like that researchers are asking the right questions for patients and can use our input to make a better future for everyone. I really love working on the projects being conducted by the Centre because it shows that we can play an active role in helping researchers learn from our experiences as patients.
