Dr Piper is the Programme Manager for the CfCWR and is responsible for the operational delivery/ co-ordination and management of the Centre.

Dr Piper gained her PhD in 1991, in the field of immuno-parasitology at the National Institute for Medical Research, London. She then spent 18 years as an immunologist working in tropical medicine (Marseille, Oxford) and then leukaemia/ bone marrow transplantation (Birmingham).
Karen joined the R & D department at UHBFT in 2009 as a clinical research grant co-ordinator facilitating grant submissions, including the NIHR SRMRC application, before she took up the programme manager position in 2011.
